"Türen auf mit der Maus“ (Doors Open with The Mouse) activity day at teamtechnik:

Children discover e-mobility

WDR's nationwide "Türen auf mit der Maus" (Doors Open with The Mouse) activity day took place on October 3rd. ("Die Maus" (The Mouse), is a German children's television series, popular nationwide for its educational content. It is broadcast by the German TV station WDR (Westdeutscher Rundfunk)). A host of companies from all over Germany took part in this event, giving youngsters the chance to take a look behind the scenes at their businesses. teamtechnik in Freiberg also opened its doors to young explorers.

Under the banner "Zusammentun" (Working together), 50 "Mouse fans" from in and around the city of Freiberg were invited to come and find out which components are needed to make an electric car move. Places on the activity day were booked up quickly. A mere 10 days after the invitation to participate was released, every place was filled.

How does an e-drive actually work?

In the production halls at teamtechnik, the youngsters discovered everything that has to be put together before an electric car can set off. They were given insights into components such as the electric motor, the inverter – a device that converts the power stored in the battery – and, of course, the battery itself. The two groups of children were able to watch how the production technology for these components was created.

DIY in the training workshop

After touring the production halls, the children got the chance to do something practical. Under the supervision of our apprentices, they were given hands-on experience in our spacious training workshop. Working together, they built a windmill and discovered how the generator that is used to generate electricity can also function as a motor and that the windmill also turns when it is connected to a battery. A light bulb moment for many because this principle can also be applied to e-vehicles. "The motor in an electric car also generates electricity when the vehicle brakes. That's really cool!", exclaimed one of the "Mouse fans" in amazement.

Last but not least: a ride in an electric car

A special highlight of the visit came right at the end of the day, with a ride across the company site in an electric car. Every participant got the chance to sit in an e-vehicle and experience sustainable mobility as a passenger. The activity day gave the students a vivid and exciting insight into the world of electro-mobility and regenerative power. This practical approach really helped to communicate complex technical relationships in an easily understood way and spark an interest in the technologies of the future.
